Why buy something you'll only use once?
Things You Should Rent Instead of Buy
For a weekend project, a party, or a trip, renting for the days you need can make more sense than buying something you will store afterwards. It is not always the cheaper choice.
Things people often rent for a short project
Examples of things that can be listed for a short need. These are ideas, not items currently available.
Tools and DIY
A drill or a saw for one project, rather than a tool that then sits in a closet.
Cleaning equipment
A carpet cleaner or a pressure washer for a move or a one-time clean.
Events and parties
Tents, tables, or lighting for a single gathering.
Camping and outdoors
Gear for a trip you take once or twice a season.
Kitchen appliances
An appliance you need for one occasion, not every week.
Think about the total cost, not just the price tag
The purchase price is only one part of owning something. Before you buy, look at how you will actually use it.
How often you will really use it
A few times is a different decision from every month for years.
Buying for a one-time need
A single project, party, or trip is often the whole life of that purchase.
Where it goes afterwards
Closets, balconies, and storage lockers have a cost of their own.
Upkeep it may need
Some items need cleaning, maintenance, or parts between uses.
Renting only for the days you need
You can take the item for the dates of the job, then hand it back.

A listing can offer pickup, delivery, or both. What you see is what that lender chose.
Arranged between you
Super Neighbor does not deliver the item. The lender and the renter arrange the handover in the app.
Close to home
Listings come from people near you. Super Neighbor is currently focused on Ontario, starting with Toronto and the GTA.
What is in place when you rent
What the platform already does around a rental.
Listings are reviewed first
New listings are reviewed by Super Neighbor before they appear in the marketplace.
You verify before you request
Renters verify their identity and phone number before they can send a rental request.
You pay through the platform
After the lender approves your request, you pay through Super Neighbor. Payments are processed by a third-party payment provider.
A security hold on your card
The lender sets an amount between CAD $100 and CAD $400. It is an authorization placed before handover, not a charge, and it is released if the item is returned as agreed.
Handover and return are confirmed
Renter and lender confirm the handover and the return in the app. You can report an issue from the rental details if something goes wrong.
Questions about renting instead of buying
No. It depends on how often you will use the item, whether you have room to store it, and what upkeep it needs. Renting can be the better fit for a one-time or occasional need. Buying can be more logical if you will use the item regularly for a long time.
Each listing sets its own daily price, and some also show a lower daily rate for longer rentals. Renters pay a 20% service fee on the rental amount, with a minimum of CAD $2. All fees are shown before the rental is confirmed. See how renting works.
